Project

KALEIDOS

 About

KALEIDOS unites research managers from four European universities and one SME to enhance Knowledge Valorisation (KV) and Open Science (OS). Collaboration with another university aims to share skills, best practices, and build networks. By involving local stakeholders, the project seeks to improve research stages from idea generation to market application. KALEIDOS will develop and test new social innovation and OS approaches, using indicators to measure impact. The project will define roles and create training programs for OS professionals. Resources and policy recommendations will support other universities and research centres in adopting these practices. The ultimate goal is to facilitate the transition to OS and social innovation management across Europe.

Collaboration between GraspOS and KALEIDOS is crucial for integrating advanced OS and KV practices into research assessment.

KALEIDOS's expertise in embedding Quadruple-Helix (QH) interaction-based KV best practices throughout research stages aligns with GraspOS's mission to develop federated, community-governed research metrics and indicators.

This partnership will enable GraspOS to incorporate comprehensive social innovation approaches and create robust indicators for OS and social innovation impact, ensuring that research outputs are effectively measured and valorised. Together, they aim to support the transition of universities and research centres towards an OS and social innovation-focused management approach.

Mutual benefits

GraspOS benefits from KALEIDOS’s strong competence in Knowledge Valorisation (KV) and Open Science (OS), which supports GraspOS’ efforts to develop advanced research metrics and indicators. Specifically, the collaboration enables GraspOS to integrate comprehensive social innovation approaches and KV best practices, and improves its ability to measure OS and social innovation impact. Additionally, GraspOS gains access to KALEIDOS’ network and expertise, facilitating cross-learning and the sharing of best practices.

GraspOS contributes to the collaboration by providing its expertise in developing federated, community-governed research metrics and indicators, which align with KALEIDOS’s goals. GraspOS’s tools and services support the measurement and evaluation of OS practices, thereby improving KALEIDOS’s ability to assess the impact of social innovation. Additionally, GraspOS offers case studies and data that help validate and refine the methodologies developed by KALEIDOS.

The collaboration aims to achieve the following outcomes:

  • Integration and use of KALEIDOS’s KV and OS best practices into GraspOS’s research assessment infrastructure.
  • Develop robust indicators for measuring OS and social innovation impact.
  • Create comprehensive professional profiles and training programs for OS practitioners.

The ultimate goal is to support Research Performing Organisation in their transition to an OS and social innovation management approach.

Joint activities

Planned joint activities include the organisation of of workshops and webinars for cross-learning and skill-sharing; developing and piloting new Open Science and Knowledge Valorisation indicators; and creating training programs and guidelines for Open Science professional profiles.
Additionally, both projects will collaborate on producing joint publications and policy recommendations.

The joint activities which have taken place will be listed below.
